With Will Smith’s Bad Boys: Ride or Die heading to its theatrical release, its global opening box office projections are in. The estimates suggest a strong start domestically, and worldwide. While the predicted numbers are lower than what Bad Boys for Life began with, they are better than almost every summer movie released in 2024.
Bad Boys: Ride or Die opening reported to break 2024’s Summer Box Office Curse
Bad Boys: Ride or Die is projected to start its global proceedings with a $75 million+ overhaul. Will Smith’s R-rated outing could have the second-best domestic opening, per Deadline, as it is expected to bring in around $40 million from the United States and Canada, and $35 million from the international markets.
According to the outlet, the initial projections were $50 million, while Box Office Pro’s long-range forecast was between $55-75 million. However, the numbers have lowered due to the overall drop in the summer box office performance. Bad Boys: Ride or Die’s domestic opening would still be the second-best for the summer after Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes’ $58 million weekend.
Even though it falls behind Bad Boys for Life’s $62.5 million domestic opening, and $101 million worldwide opening, Sony’s CEO Tony Vinciquerra is optimistic about Bad Boys: Ride or Die’s box office prospects.
Speaking in a Sony Group Corporation conference call in Japan recently, he stated that the latest Bad Boys installment was tracking well with its advance ticket sales. “We’re pretty sure it is going to be just fine,” he said.
The official synopsis of Bad Boys: Ride or Die reads:
“After their late former Captain is framed, Lowrey and Burnett try to clear his name, only to end up on the run themselves.”
It hits theaters domestically on June 7, 2024, and stars Will Smith, Martin Lawrence, Jacob Scipio, Vanessa Hudgens, and others.
